Auction Rooms in North Melbourne is one of my favourite places to stop for breakfast. Locals and coffee devotees from across Melbourne flock here for a cup of the good stuff. The cafe is always full, and due to its regularity of being included in lists for Melbourne’s best coffee, the have opened up a pop up store directly across the road to cater for takeaway orders.
The coffee are always spot on. Rich and creamy. Artistry styled coffee, such as drip, are also well featured here.
Food was the reason for my visit. Breakfast of course was the desire. Auction Rooms did not fail me with delicious sounding menu items including Breakfast board of chorizo, ocean trout croquette, avocado, feta, a soft-boiled egg with soldiers and a mixed grain porridge. Yum!
I could not go past the ‘Sides’ section of the menu, so I decided to order poached eggs and a few different sides. The eggs were perfectly poached and when cracked revealed their golden orange yolk in all its glory. The eggs were served on crunchy toasted sourdough bread.
One of the sides I selected was the pan fried chorizo served with a lime aioli. Now one would think that the chorizo would be the star, however all attention should be paid to the aioli. Perfectly joined with seasonings and lime to give its a smooth, creamy and tart taste. I would travel far for the that aioli! The chorizo was crispy and gave off a wonderful spicy hit which complimented the aioli perfectly.
The second dish was a generous chunk of cows milk feta which was salty, crumbly and one of the creamiest I had ever tasted. It was paired perfectly with a tart and vinegary beetroot relish, which when marbled with the feta looked and tasted beautifully.
Auction Rooms has to be one of the best breakfast spots in Melbourne, and a worthy addition to any ‘must eat’ list.
North Melbourne has so many great brunch places ❤
